Hello, and welcome to Writing Forward, a brand new creative writing blog. If you’re a writer, then this is the place for you, and if creative writing is your passion, you’ll find tons of useful articles here in the coming months.
My Creative Writing Story
My name is Melissa Donovan, and like most writers I was a reader first. I learned to read at three years old and spent much of my early childhood consuming books. In junior high, I joined the school newspaper and started writing poetry. I had a talent for acing reports and essays, no matter the subject.
Some of my teachers encouraged students to keep creative writing journals. Occasionally we were given topics to write about, but mostly it was just a lot of musing and pontificating. When junior high was behind me, I continued to write in my journal, and I stuck with my poetry writing as well.
Because I have so many interests, I struggled to choose a major in college. Eventually, I settled on English with a concentration in creative writing. I figured that I might as well hone my natural talents into full-blown expertise. It was during my college years that I truly fell in love with creative writing. Finally, essays were challenging! Classes were stimulating! The literature we read and the assignments we wrote were held to higher standards. My writing truly began to blossom.
What’s This Creative Writing Blog About?
College is behind me now, but creative writing is still very much a part of my life. Something else that’s become a big part of my life is the Internet, and more recently, blogging.
For a long time, I’ve felt that the web is the ideal venue for writers — publishing gets easier every day, and there’s plenty of room for all of our words — so a creative writing blog is only natural. Plus, it’s the perfect way for me to combine two of my passions: creative writing and blogging, so I can share them with other people.
